Damn, I noticed the Ampero Stomp II latency when I got it!!! I am returning it! I loved two patches I wanted to use, but having to change to IRs to reduce latency, makes it impossible to get those exact sounds... Too bad!

Thank you for the thoroughness! Honestly, they all sound very impressive. For price vs features, the Boss is very alluring - even if it is a little noisy (but that's why noise gates exists, right?!).

if you want to use looper live, u should go with the Ampero. I have heard that the pitch shifter is better in the HX but it eats up the half of ur DSP

Leo Gibson -how about a video using your analysis of a modelers capability to model a real amp using the phase inversion but do it for a modeler like the Valeton. We see for example the temper did like 26db how does that compare to something like the valeton. That would really give us a better idea how much of a difference there is compared to something like NAM , tonex or the Kemper

I understand people saying it is so expensive because of the antiquated UI, no computer editing, USB flashdrive transfers, etc. compared to the competition. But I think this is not why it is priced higher. The fact that it has such low latency, even with IRs and convolution reverb, running open-source neural models that are as good or better than the competition -- this is not trivial and speaks to pure performance, both sound quality and live performance. It's also a much smaller company. The analogy is a Tesla. It costs premium which people are unhappy about since it isn't as luxurious compared to German cars -- but that is NOT why you buy it. It's the technology and performance!

As I read the comments the biggest issue of this pedal is its price.... I can forgive the screen and the editing, even using the thumb drive...i find that even a positive... it discourage me from editing and finding the tone... and instead makes me play more.... With the Tonex one, even Boss IR200 etc at a much more lower price it's hard to justify spending that much money. However, I think that they have gotten the formula right from the beginning, and that is very rare and promising with a new company. Basically gapless, Zero Latency, open source and more. Fractal did not have gapless until many recently.

Guys in the comments saying it's antiquated. Yeah, the b&w LCD, lack of PC app and download via pendrive are obsolete. But it's a freaking NAM player, playing standard models in a portable unit with almost no latency. This could be the first step to unify the "profile" thing, so instead of looking for a specific amp for your modeler, you would have an ample library of amps, free or not, just like IRs right now. If this is not innovation, IDK what is.

I think you're in better hands with an Ax FX from 1995

For me, the jury is still out on this pedal. Using a flash drive to update and having to do all the editing on the LCD display seems antiquated. I'll have to wait and hear you use it in a demo song. Tone X seems to be more advanced in the UI by leaps and bounds. God bless and rock on 👍😎🎸

Thanks Leo. The IR2 is a great little unit. Does adding third party IRs to all different modeling units, increase their overall latency? And would the latency change from one third party to the next(say Celestion vs own hammer)?

What steps are you taking to ensure the output captures volume is matched to the original file? Even if the only difference in files was a slight difference in volume it could be perceived as a capture that was not as accurate.

Man you play really well! The GT-1000 sounds like absolute Dog Shit. It has this pervasive tone in the highs that sounds like something between aliasing and straight up digital clipping for the distorted tones. The helix has a lot more dimension to it and lacks that artifacty sound of the Boss. Thank you for this video. Appreciate the work here.
